ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association (AFA) today announced that URS Corporation, a leading provider of engineering, construction and technical services, has joined the team of sponsors for CyberPatriot, the national high school cyber defense competition.

URS Corporation provides engineering, construction and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the world. They offer a full range of program management; planning, design and engineering; systems engineering and technical assistance; construction and construction management; operations and maintenance; information technology solutions; and decommissioning and closure services for power, infrastructure, industrial and commercial, and federal projects and programs.

URS joins CyberPatriot as a Cyber Gold sponsor, providing leadership, enthusiasm and technical support to the nation's fastest-growing youth cyber challenge.

CyberPatriot is an exciting education initiative created to stimulate student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Providing students hands-on learning about technology, CyberPatriot emphasizes teamwork and leadership, and exercises critical-thinking skills as teams learn how to defend and protect computer systems from cyber threats. This year's competition began in late October 2011, with more than 1,000 teams around the country (and five in Canada) registered to participate.

"We are excited to establish this relationship with AFA's CyberPatriot program. URS recognizes the importance of motivating today's youth to pursue careers in STEM-related fields," said Randall A. Wotring, President of Federal Services for URS. "As an engineering and technical services firm, we understand the importance of training and developing the next generation of skilled and technical professionals to foster innovation in the growing fields such as Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity. Supporting initiatives such as CyberPatriot is important to the future success of our Nation."

"The vast expertise URS brings to the CyberPatriot program will unquestionably heighten its reach and influence," said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot Commissioner. "The commitment and support from our sponsors has been instrumental to the success of this program. I feel privileged to be able to work with them all and we remain very appreciative for their generosity."
